CUPE Local 973 proudly represents workers who deliver vital public services for both the City of Guelph and the County of Wellington. Within the County, our members support essential programs in Housing Services, Ontario Works, and Child Care, providing direct support to residents and families who rely on these services every day.
City of Guelph Inside workers daily work supports residents, businesses, and community partners across a wide range of municipal services. Our members provide the administrative, technical, financial, customer service, and regulatory support that allows the City to function effectively and responsibly. From processing permits and payments, supporting city programs, managing records and data, assisting the public at service counters, and ensuring compliance with municipal bylaws and policies, inside workers are often the first point of contact for residents seeking help or information. Their work ensures that services are delivered efficiently, accurately, and with care.
County of Wellington members deliver critical social and community services that support some of the most vulnerable residents across the County. Our members working in Housing Services, Ontario Works, and Child Care play a vital role in promoting stability, dignity, and opportunity for individuals and families. Members assist residents in accessing safe and affordable housing, income supports, employment resources, and childcare services. They navigate complex systems, respond to urgent needs, and provide guidance during times of crisis and transition. This work requires professionalism, compassion, and a deep understanding of community needs. This work is demanding, complex, and deeply impactful, and it deserves recognition, respect, and fair working conditions.
